What is CISSP – Concepts, Eligibility Criteria and Pluses Associated?

CISSP is the abbreviation for Certified Information systems Security. This is one the most prestigious and globally known certifications, which are considered to the gold standards of the Cyber Security World. This certification is regulated and provided by The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, which is generally known as ISC2. The reason why this certification is regarded as the gold standard is as follows: 

  • Only 142,112 candidates hold this certification worldwide, which includes 170 countries. This data is provided by ISC2 as of January 1, 2020. 
  • The department of defence of the United States of America also approves this in both IAM and IAT. 
  • This certification has a record-breaking fail rate of 80 per cent. 
  • This certification enables a person to gain the knowledge in security, development and management of the networks. 

CISSP Concept: 

CISSP is one of the most difficult sectors in which a certain IT professional has to give a six-hour exam with 250 questions. This exam is rated with an 80 per cent fail rate, but the talented individuals with proper knowledge about the topics and courses pass with flourishing grades. These individuals are placed in the top industries due to their technical knowledge regarding the subject. 

The CISSP is considered as the tree with various branches of topics on Information Security Studies. The candidates are given special knowledge regarding their respective topics in the Information security Syllabus; on completion of this, the candidates give a final exam called CBK or common body knowledge exam. 

This examination is based on the topics that are commonly known to Information Security studies. The candidates need to cover these ten areas to pass the exam: 

  1. Physical security
  2. Operations security
  3. Access controls system and methodology
  4. Cryptography
  5. Disaster recovery and business continuity plans
  6. Best management practices
  7. Investigation laws and ethics
  8. Security models and architectures
  9. Systems and application security development
  10. Networking and telecommunications security

These are certain courses that an individual needs to prepare as he will face these questions during examination. 

Eligibility for CISSP: 

A candidate must have five years of experience in two or more domains such as ISC2 CISSP CBK. The ISC2 provides the candidates with a one-year professional course for the students who have a four-college degree in the same field. 

The candidates who don’t carry any work experience can also apply for the certificate, upon successful completion of the exam, the candidate won’t be allowed to have the CISSP name tag yet, he needs to earn his experience for the next six years in the respective domains. Then only an individual is allowed to have a CISSP credential.
